Japanese girl dates Godzilla
We’ve all had dreams as children about what our future would look like. Seira Watanabe is no exception – the 13-year-old girl from Hyōgo Prefecture envisions a blissful married life with Godzilla. So when she wrote to Knight Scoop – a variety show in Japan – asking for a date with the famous kaiju, the producers of the show gladly obliged and fulfilled her lifelong dream.

Knight Scoop is a popular Japanese variety show that has been on air since 1988. The hosts of the show take on the role of “detectives” in an agency and take in requests from viewers. They then go on “investigations” to turn these submitted requests – often silly ones – into reality.

The episode started off with Seira walking the host through her impressive collection of Godzilla memorabilia. It was all pretty normal fan stuff, until she shared that she joined the soccer club to bulk up her leg muscles so that she can have giant thighs like the kaiju. If that isn’t dedication, we don’t know what is.

Seira then went on to imitate Godzilla’s iconic roar, which is so lifelike that it will make even the monster himself proud.

Then, the host raised the blinds, revealing the reptilian monster who had been waiting patiently for the big reveal. Upon seeing her idol in person, the ecstatic Seira screamed, fell on her knees, hyperventilated, and even shed tears of joy.

After Seira recovered from her shock, the duo went on a date at Godzilla Museum, which is located on Awaji Island. Like all first dates, the awkwardness was palpable. But they soon warmed up to each other, even holding hands as they toured the museum.

Like a scene out of a shōjo manga, they shared a homemade bentō prepared by Seira. But since Godzilla’s diet consists of radioactive materials, he couldn’t actually enjoy the food. Nonetheless, Seira had a great time pretending to feed him.

The pair ended their day on a romantic note at the beach, where Seira gave the kaiju a hug and a cheeky peck, before finally proposing to him. Sadly, she was rejected, but it’s safe to say that no first dates in the rest of Seira’s life will ever top her day with Godzilla.
