On 24th October, the Vinland Saga Twitter account confirmed that the anime series will be returning with Season 2 on 9th January 2023. The announcement was followed by a new trailer uploaded onto the MAPPA CHANNEL and TWIN ENGINE YouTube channels.

Vinland Saga follows a young boy, Thorfinn, in his quest for revenge against the man who killed his father. However, Season 1 ended with the target of Thorfinn’s revenge murdered by someone else.

Vinland Saga Season 2 picks up from the aftermath, and the 1st trailer showed Thorfinn devoid of any will to live after losing his ultimate life goal.

Nevertheless, thanks to those around him, Thorfinn begins to get over his failed revenge and seeks a new reason for living.

The 2nd trailer features Thorfinn interacting with a new character named Einar, who seems to play a major role in helping Thorfinn find his purpose in life.

Einar is the same fellow who briefly appeared on a ship at the end of Season 1 of Vinland Saga. He appears more well-groomed in the 2nd season’s trailers, suggesting that he met Thorfinn in a different timeline.

The 2nd trailer reveals the new opening song, River by Anonymouz, for Season 2 of Vinland Saga. Anonymouz is also the singer behind Boruto: Naruto the Next Generations’ latest ending song, Ladder.

Finally putting a closure to Thorfinn’s gruelling revenge-centred life, Vinland Saga Season 2 illustrates how he learns to live for himself. The upcoming anime series will premiere in Japan on 9th January 2023, with its Netflix and Crunchyroll streaming schedule yet to be announced.
