Seeing long-standing establishments succumb to modernisation can be melancholic, as was the case when the 94-year-old Toshimaen shuttered for good in 2020. But with every closure comes the start of a brand new era. Slated to open in summer 2023, the new Harry Potter attraction debuting in Tokyo will be taking the place of its predecessor.
Officially named Warner Brothers Studio Tour Tokyo – Making Of Harry Potter – a mouthful, we know – the brand-new entertainment facility is said to be a space where Potterheads can immerse themselves in film sets featured in the Harry Potter movie series and its spin-off, Fantastic Beasts.

Spanning a vast size of 30,000 sqm – roughly the size of 5 football fields – the facility allows visitors to freely roam around and check out realistic props and costumes, as well as sculptures of magical creatures that appeared in the movies.

The 2nd of its kind in the world and 1st in Asia, the new Harry Potter attraction that will be unveiled in Tokyo resembles London’s Warner Bros. Studio Tour, which has brought smiles to more than 16 million Potterheads since its opening in 2012.
Fans can expect a similar magical experience as they walk through recreated film sets and iconic spots such as Platform 9 ¾ and the Hogwarts Express.

Besides realistic production sets, visitors can also expect interactive props and exhibits that make use of green screen technology to take you to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

British meals, sweets, and the fictional wizarding beverage Butterbeer will also be served at the cafes and restaurants available within the premises.
It’s certainly a good day for Potterheads in Japan as they have yet another place to immerse themselves in unadulterated wizardry fun. Exact details on the attraction’s opening has not been announced yet, so follow our space for the latest updates.
