If we’ve learnt anything about Burger King Japan by now, it’s that the fast food chain isn’t afraid to come up with wacky creations. For those who’ve found their “fake burger” to be a carb bomb, we’ve got the perfect low-carb, high protein alternative for you – Burger King Japan’s new “bunless” burger.

Burger King’s new “bunless” burger, dubbed the Extreme One Pound Beef Burger, is exactly what you’d expect – a meat galore. The colossal meat monstrosity comprises no burger buns, just 4 chargrilled beef patties. Between the meat “buns” are an assortment of fresh vegetables, slices of cheddar cheese, and ketchup to cut through the richness.

The 4 beef patties weigh a grand total of 499g and contain a whopping 1,236 calories, which is approximately half the recommended daily calorie intake for men.

After Burger King released an official announcement yesterday, netizens abuzz were with excitement. User @gizupapa remarked that he is “so moved” by Burger King Japan’s innovative idea to “use the vegetable as the patty and the beef patties as buns.”

Netizens like @yumiya2018 were concerned that the patties might be too hot to hold on to, unlike how you’d grab a normal burger, and reminded everyone to be careful.

User @death_okan jokingly commented that they can “lose weight as long as they eat the burger, since it is low in carbohydrates.” The sentiment was echoed by user @shiru2_toshitsu, an influencer who offers practical dietary tips, who quipped that the burger is “definitely low-carb.”
The Extreme One Pound Beef Burger is available for a limited time only, from now till 3rd December 2020, and will be sold from 2PM onwards, daily. You can get the burger ala carte for ¥1,400 (~USD13.48), or top up an additional ¥300 (~USD2.89) for a drink and fries on the side.
Unfortunately, the meat monstrosity is only limited to Burger King stores in Japan for now. Considering the brand’s track record in releasing special edition products, we can expect to see more exciting creations soon. Who knows, you may be able to give it a try when leisure travel resumes in the near future!
