The Alice in Fantasy Land cafe in Osaka is based on the first few chapters of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, where Alice first enters Wonderland. The interior of the cafe is inspired by various scenes from the book, including the King’s banquet hall, the upside down clock room, the Queen’s garden, and the playing card disco.

Alice in Fantasy Land cafe is not only aesthetically pleasing, it also offers a sumptuous selection of food. They specialise in a fusion of French and Italian cuisines, and their dishes are named in line with the theme too. The genius who came up with this menu is incredibly detail-oriented, and made sure that every little thing fits with the theme of the restaurant – down to the plates used for each dish.

Notice how the plate used for the Queen of Hearts’ pasta is decorated with roses. It is a subtle ode to the scene where Alice stumbles into the rose garden and finds the playing cards desperately painting the white roses red.

Even the carbonara is served on a plate with numerical markings, a nod to the pocket watch used by the White Rabbit.

Even their mocktails (¥770-¥825, ~USD5.66-USD6.07) evoke the botanical theme that is often associated with the fairy tale, making use of fruits, herbs, and flowers to create beverages that please both the eye and taste buds.
